THE BIOGRAPHY OF A GARANG ROOSTER

Forty-six years ago, in a quiet village of Singapore, a baby boy was born under the Chinese zodiac sign of the rooster to a fishmonger father and a housewife mother.

For two years, he attended a kindergarten taught by some Barisan Socialist teachers.  In 1964, he enrolled in a neighborhood primary school and was appointed head prefect for two consecutive years in primary five & six. This 'garang' rooster then went on to secondary education.  After completing his forth year, he lost interest in his studies and thought to himself that money will make the world go round.  He took on various jobs, mainly the 3-D types: dirty, difficult & dangerous.  But, he was happy and carefree, without any responsibility.

Then came national service in 1975.  He was devastated initially. The SAF robbed him of his freedom and independence.  He was depressed; got pushed left and right, shouted at, insulted and tortured by his instructors.  After three months, he learnt the art of patience, tolerance and respect.  Some eleven months later, he graduated to become a Commando fighter, earning his airborne wing proudly pinned on his chest.  He faithfully served and completed his two and half years national service, attaining the rank of sergeant.

After his ROD, he worked as an emergency service officer.  He held this post for five years before venturing into a sales job.  Through rank and file, he worked his way up the corporate ladder and today, he is a manager of the same company he joined two decades ago.

Meantime, the arrows of Cupid strike in 1978.  He met a lovely girl at the East Coast beach, courted her and made her his wife in 1984.  They had two beautiful children; a boy, now eighteen and a girl, turning sweet sixteen.  All this while, he also realised the importance of continuous education.  He took up part-time courses, attended seminars and workshops.  Today, this chap is still struggling to learn about management studies at the Singapore Institute of Management.

Guess who... no prize for the right answer.
